Hillary Clinton celebrates the 400th Anniversary of the Dutch Discovery Of Manhattan!

This morning at 9:00 a.m., Secretary Clinton launched NY400 Week. Now what even is NY400 week? It is the celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the Dutch Discovery Of Manhattan. Pretty interesting huh?

At this morning's event was Prince Willem Alexander, Princess Maxima as well as New York Mayor Micheal Bloomberg. Today's Hudson River festivities included NATO vessels, Dutch barges and a replica of Hudson's Half Moon. Also, the Dutch naval ship HNLMS Tromp offered a 21-gun salute.

NY400 Week runs from September 8-13 and all of New York will celebrate the event with Dutch festivals, boat races, dance parties, museum exhibitions and probably much more programming.

Read the full transcript of the Secretary's remarks here or check out this video from an interview with Dutch journalist Rick Nieman on why this celebration is so important:

If you are interested in learning more about the NY400 visit their website. It's quite neat!

Also... a ton of photos after the jump!
