Hillary Clinton keeps her commitment to women

In May 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the United States would host a conference on women and entrepreneurship as part of the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas initiative. On Friday, October 9th, she followed through.

Participants from Manitoba, Canada to Santiago, Chile, gathered in the State Department’s Treaty Room to discuss how empowering women was integral to progress, prosperity, and peace in every country.

The conference, co-sponsored by the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the Secretary’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, featured dynamic, innovative, and interactive programs linking early career entrepreneurs with more seasoned businesswomen. Early career entrepreneurs were chosen based on their readiness to expand their businesses into new markets. Supporting these businesswomen provides a multiplier effect for not only those businesses, but also for their communities and the entire region.

These entrepreneurs met with Secretary Clinton and also heard her speak. In her remarks, the Secretary discussed how empowering women was integral to progress, prosperity, and peace in every country, and praised the women for having the courage and commitment to work for a better future. As read on the Dipnote blog, one envoy noted, it is time to realize the untapped potential of the “collective power of women.” Well said dear envoy, well said...
