Hillary Clinton honors Nairobi embassy

On Thursday, August 6th, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton laid a wreath at the site of the 1998 U.S. embassy bombing in Nairobi, Kenya.

U.S. embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania were bombed on August 7 1998. The attack in Kenya killed 218 people.

Hillary Clinton also met survivors of the attack and said visiting the memorial was an opportunity to renew U.S. resolve to fight against terrorism.

Later, Clinton was scheduled to meet with Somali President Sheikh Sharif Ahmed who is battling an insurgency led by Al Shabaab, a militant group inspired by al Qaeda, which has taken control of much of southern and central Somalia.
